Lottery Resources Management & Payment Verfication Center ripoff lottery payment scam, fraud lump sum payment, I have never gambled, but somehow I won the lottery in British Colombia, yeah right. Watch out for this one

My wife got a letter in the mail that said the following:
"AWARD CLAIM FINAL NOTIFICATION
We are please to inform you that you are one of the declared winners of the NORTH AMERICAN SWEEPSTAKES LOTTERY held on the December 30, 2005 in the 2nd category.

A ticket with serial number 405709415 attached to your name drew the lucky winning numbers 29-63-33-59-32-46.

You are entitled to a lump sum payment of $100, 000.00 USD (ONE HUNDREN THOUSAND DOLLARS ONLY). This is from a total cash prize of $3, 000, 000.00 USD (THREE MILLION DOLLARS) shared and presented among 30 declared winners in the category. Please note that all participants were selected from a random computer ballot system drawn from over 500, 000. CONGRATULATIONS!

To expedite the processing, enclosed is a check of $3, 940.00 US dollars which has been deducted from your winnings. You will be using the money on this first check to pay for the applicable taxes on your winning ($100, 000.00).

The tax amount is USD $3, 600.00 (THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS) to be paid by MONEYGRAM."

Etc., Etc., Etc., Etc.
BLAH!!! BLAH!!! BLAH!!!

Now the first and only lottery ticket I bought was when I was 18. It was a scratch-off, I lost and haven't gambled since (well $6 in Vegas-Gambling is a tax on the poor and stupid-do the math). That was over 8 years ago. My wife, likewise has not gambled, in 12 years (same story, but a quick pick-she lost-never played again).

When you call these people they tell you to cash it immediately, "Don't tell anyone as we've had a lot of people try to claim this prize, " and send them the money back to them.

A side note it has been almost a year since the "lottery" occured since the date of the check is Oct. 10, 2006 and the letter is Oct. 12, 2006.
