Manipulative psychopath scammed us and many others!

After checking all Mark Van Dop's references, we hired him to do a major renovation on our house. From the day we signed the contract, he was happy to drop off his equipment at our house. Then, over 6 months passed and he was on site a total of 4 times. You guessed it! Paydays!

He left an inexperienced carpenter in charge and of course, the job was just not done properly. After the framing was done and the carpenter was running out of jobs to do, we had learned that no other sub-trade was hired? Mark told us the whole job would be done in 3 months! This was a guy that we trusted because he was a friend of very good friends of ours! Of course, the job we not even halfway done and Mark had a hefty deposit. We found out that he had not even taken the plans into the city and the carpenter was working off designer drawings, not official drawing!

After we gave him notice of termination, he sent his guy to empty out the house of tools, including some of our own.

When we asked for the deposit back, he basically shut us out and we have not heard from him since. As we have began our research into taking him to court, we have discovered that he has at least 6 other parties after him. He was not only taking our money and lining his own pockets, he was screwing over the sub-contractors by not paying the money owed to them!

According to the provincial court registry, Mark Van Dop has a history of deceiving people and he must be stopped!
