Richmond Hill Mitsubishi
, Mitsubishi Motors Canada Service Department Scam

Cars & Transport

Took our 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander into the Richmond Hill Ontario dealership for an oil change. Vehicle has just over 60, 000 km. Everything was running fine... no complaints. 5 minutes after dropping vehicle off, I get a call from the Service Department rep. saying that the brakes have less than 10% life left in them and that both front and rear pads and rotors needed replacing. Cost was $1400 plus taxes. I instructed him to do the oil change and to NOT do the brakes.

That afternoon, I purchased new pads and rotors at a local parts store. I took the car to work since we have a hoist, tools and a machine shop here. Upon closer inspection of the alleged "worn" parts, we found that all of the parts were in perfectly servicable condition. New rotors were measured at 10.1 mm in thickness. All of the rotors on the car measured 9.9 mm in thickness, well in excess of the 8.4 mm minimum. All pads were worn to at most 50%, well in excess of the "less than 10%" claim by the dealership.

Calls to Mitsubishi Canada have gone unanswered.
