We booked a vacation package with Sunquest through our travel agent. We paid for a 1 week stay at the Riu in Costa Rica for a family of 4 for $5800 (all inclisive).2 weeks prior to departure, we were informed that our booking was cancelled because Air Transat cancelled the flights. We asked Sunquest to hold our room reservation and charge us only for the room. They, at first refused but then after much arguing they said they woudl honour our room booking if we paid them an additional $2000. That means they now wanted us to pay $7800 just for the room. Let me back track and advise that we booked this new hotel when they were offering an opening deal and got a great rate as now the rack rate was $10K fo rthe week. I phoned the hotel and found out that Sunquest had paid $2100 for the room for us. That means that Sunquest wanted $5700 commission on this booking. They were not impressed when they found out we knew how much they paid, so they lowered their offer to $5800. I have never been treated so poorly. It would have been very easy for them to charge me a reasonable rate for the room and honour that booking as it was already made and reserved. We would have gotten ourselves down there as Sunquest made no attempt to even OFFER any flight options. I am sure hat most bookings go accoridng to plan but I am dumbstruck at their outrageous commission charge. It makes me wonder what they charge normally.
