North American Sweepstakes. I received a check from "Noble Management" informing me that it was a "first installment" of a winning sweepstakes ticket for a prize of $125, 000. The first installment was for the supposed payment of a Non-Resident Government Service Tax to the Canadian Government. I called and someone named G. Pino answered informing me to wire the amount of the Tax to a Brenda Maxwell at 32 River Road, Halifax Nova Scotia.
Well, I deposited the check and ALMOST wired the tax amount to them, but I decided to wait. I read elsewhere that out-of-state checks can take up to 7 full business days to clear. So I waited, and on the 6th day the check was returned to my bank for non-sufficient funds. I am out $15 for the bank fee plus the cost of about 6 phone calls to Noble Management.
BEWARE. The Canadian Government does not use third parties to collect taxes.
If you receive one of these checks, either report it to the police and/or ripoff report. OR, shred it.
