I became a member of dvdhype.com, an online dvd rental service in Canada, in May of 2004.
I cancelled my online membership August 30, 2004, 7 days prior to my billing date, as is specified in the terms and conditions. I also returned all my dvd movies promptly, and they all arrived 1 day after my billing date.
I got billed in September, membership fees for the month of September. When I noticed the charge on my credit card I contacted dvdhype.com through their online based ticket system. The response I received, 1 week later, was that I had not followed the terms and conditions. They said I cancelled less than 1 week prior to my billing date, and all my movies did not arrive before my billing date and therefore had been billed for the month of September. I forwarded proof of my date for cancellation to them, and their terms and conditions state if the movies are not returned 2 weeks after the account is cancelled they can bill me membership fees to cover the retail cost of the movies. They received all my movies 1 week and 1 day after I had cancelled my account.
I then received a reply that stated they were incorrect and I had cancelled my account on time. But they said my movies did arrive 1 day late and a decision would be made at the billing department.
I never did receive any email from the billing department. I was quite shocked to see another charge for membership fees posted to my credit card for the month of October. I tried to contact dvdhype.com again, however have not received any reply.
I have been charged 2 months membership (approx 56.00) and have not been given any reason why I have been charged. My account is cancelled, I cannot receive any further movies, however am still getting charged membership fees. DVDHype.com does not provide any contact information for their company (phone numbers, city, address) so buyers beware.
I finally contacted my credit card company and put in a complaint. My credit card compay has cancelled my credit card account and is sending me a new card/new account number. They are also investigating for Online Creditcard Fraud.
I would not recommend DVDHype.com to anyone. Am posting this on here to make sure nobody has to go through the same experience as I have been put through. The customer service I received from this company has been the worst I have ever experienced.
