An accused murderer wanted for shooting a Toronto man outside a Vaughan banquet hall was arrested in Ottawa early Monday.
York Regional Police said they also arrested a woman for allegedly being an accessory after the fact in connection with the Jan. 21 slaying of Arash Elijah Bakhtaryani, 27.
The victim was ambushed as he walked to the Paradise Banquet Hall on Jane St., police alleged.
The father of one young son was pronounced dead at hospital shortly after the shooting.
Detectives identified a suspect in the region’s first murder of 2011 and issued a first-degree murder warrant for him.
Police believe the two men were acquaintances.
Mohand Mohamed, 31, is to appear in Newmarket court Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder.
Police also charged Maryam Torabipour, 26, of Richmond Hill, with being an accessory after the fact. She is also expected to appear in Newmarket court on Tuesday.
In a separate investigation, a Burlington man is charged with the murder of a metal works shop owner in Oakville, Halton police said Monday.
The body of Brian James Watson, 45, was found by friends in his JW Metalworkz shop, on Speers Rd., last Wednesday morning.
Friends and neighbours of the man said he lived in the shop and bought a dog for about $600 two weeks before the slaying.
The puppy was taken by the Oakville and Milton Humane Society while homicide detectives and forensic experts scoured the workshop for evidence.
Jeffrey Craig, 33, is charged with first-degree murder.
