I was told by Amazon that a Kindle 3g bought in south Africa would work in in Canada and vice versa, and that any 3g kindle would work anywhere in the world. My Canadian 3g Kindle does not work in SA. I had to spend hours ont the phone with Amazon, at long distance rates, trying to fix it, and only found the problem when I went to SA Dion Wired and was told that the 3g connectivity was wrong. Even then, Amazon would not confirm this problem by e-mail, so I had to phone again to get the official response.
Amazon has not offered any compensation, exchange, refund or any solution apart from telling me just to use it on wi-fi, although I paid a premium for 3g connection and convenience.
i would recommend that customers only buy a 3g kindle for use where it is purchased, not for travel.
