Barton Pays, Inc
Shady International Money Laundering

I'm just writing this report to warn anybody who has seen a job title for "Barton Pays, Inc." on job search web sites. unfortunately I was the victim of a scam just like this one not long ago, but didn't have huge financial repercussions for me. I'm sure others weren't as lucky. The job listing will usually say something outrageous like $100-$200/hr for an entry level position, which should cause alarm to even the sleepiest of job hunters. I responded, just to see what the people would say, to see what kind of scam it was. There's lot's of them, more and more so these days, on almost every job search web site, taking advantage of current economic conditions. I would like everyone reading this to be very wary job searching, deal locally with people you can actually speak to, and if anything, trust your instincts... they're there for a reason. If it sounds too good to be true, 99.999% of the time it will be. Just a warning.

For this particular group, I don't really need more than to paste into this complaint, verbatim, the email I was sent after responding to their ad. And I quote:

"We have received your job application from
CareerBuilder, I have read your resume and your candidature has been approved. Here you can find information about this vacancy. Barton Pays Inc. Customer Service Representative (Assistant) Vacancy

Than you will enter your e-bank, and see that transfer is already here, you will visit bank branch and ask bank manager to complete this payment.

This oportunity is for executive people (man or woman is not important, on practice woman are more executive, but this is only my point of view) and 400 USD (IN ONE DAY) is good salary for this time.
We are modern company and we care about our workers, and one year before the salary was about 5, we decided to provide higher salary for our assistants, because on practice:
- it is possible that bank is situated on other side of city, and you should use taxi or your car (this money we decided to pay from our funds)
- we want to provide more work for you, and you will see that it is best proposition on job market for today.
- maybe you want to use this opportunity as part time job, and we can understand this, about 40 of assistants combine this work with their full time employment, and on practice after 2-3 months people decide to work only with us, and not spend time in their prime work (since this moment their salary starts from 2000 USD per day till 4000 USD per week)

Wow! I didn't know Jason Bourne got his job through Careerbuilder, too! Sounds pretty fantastic, don't you think? How would you like to wake up every day, receive a mysterious phone call, and have to hang up, for some unknown by implicitly legitimate reason? Sounds like a great job. Aside from the fact that anyone who's ever read a book beyond the 5th grade level can tell this person has awful written English, if you try to contact them (I did, got a bunch of busy signal... they must be doing great business!) I'm sure what you'll hear is a poorly-pronounced and suspiciously vague description of what your new James Bond Customer Service Representative position will require you to do. If all goes well, on your way to the bank you can have the adrenaline rush of dodging guys in black suits and sunglasses, fighting off competing "job placement" assassins, that is on the off chance that your bank is "situated on other side of city, and you should use taxi", then I'd advise you prepare for the task by practicing your pistol-whipping skills and professional driving techniques!

Anyway, I'm having a little fun with this, but it's got to be done because it's by far one of the funniest things ever to come into my email inbox. I'll probably save it forever in case I'm in need of a good laugh. In conclusion, be careful people-- no matter what the economic conditions are in the U.S., things will be fine. Find a decent job, take a hit financially or pride-wise for a year or two, and don't risk what you have by responding to stuff like this.
