I received a check for $4, 8880 from Gulfstar Corporation, enclosed in an envelop with a letter stating I was a winner in the DE-Lotto AUSTRALIANS Sweepstakes Lottery held on My 2nd, 2007 in the 5th catagory. It went on to state I was entitled to the sum of $250, 000.00 USD, and that money was from a total prize of $15 Million USD that was shared among 60 declared winners., selected through a random computer ballot system drawn from over 500, 000 names from Wal-Mart, Sears, kmart etc.
I was issued a claim number which was reputedly assigned to "our North American Claims Affiliate." The check of $4880 was to enable me to pay applicable government/bond fees of $2, 870.00. I was supposed to call my claim agent {Bryan Howard} immediately. I was advised "Please do not attempt to use the check until you call, " the bond fees payable at any western union/money gram location.
Knowing it was likely a scam, I called the number given for Bryan Howard and reached his answering maching (which acknowledges it is his), which had a recording which said the message recorder was full.
The check is very authenic-looking, with address of Fulfstar Corporation in Savannah, GA.
