I received a Certificate of Award from the Metropolitan Lottery Commission on 11-20-06. I have not heard of this before so I decided to do some research. I found the Metropolitan Police Service and Rip-off-report websites. I read the stories outlined there and feel that I should share my experience with everyone. If you received a similar letter like the one below, please be aware that it is fraud.

Date November 09-2006

We are pleased to inform you that after the just concluded Metropolitan Lotto held in London, England, that you emerged as on of the winners of the Bristish International Lottery programs.

Participants were selected through a computer ballot system drawn from one million five hundred thousand names (1, 500, 000) drawn from Asia, Europe, North America and America. Your name attached to ticket number 60487-6075 with serial number 012-00117 drew the lucky numbers 21-27-8-35-40 which subsequently won the lottery in the third category. You have therefore been approved for the lump sum of $98, 000.00 (ninety eight thousand dollars only) USD in cash, which is the winning payout. This is from a total cash prize of $2, 352, 000.00 (Two million three hundred fifty two thousand united states dollars) shared amongst twenty four (24) international winners in the third Category.

Assistance check of $2997.45 is enclosed to enable you finance the international clearance fees of $2, 864.00. Your clearance fee should be remitted to our designated North American Agent Name: Amanda Lewis, Address: 415 Fairview Blvd Montreal, QC Canada H4B1R8. The representative Jane Anderson also provided the following instructions to claim my winning.

1. Deposit the Assistance check to your banking account
2. Wait 2 to 3 days for the check to clear
3. Withdraw the cash and send it to Amanda Lewis (her info. was provided above for reference).
4. Call 800-926-9400 to find the nearest location to send the money gram
5. Call Jane back after I sent the money gram along with the money gram confirmation number
6. At which point Jane will provide a Tax ID number. She stated that my winning has been taxed and I don't need to pay tax when reporting my income tax.
7. Winning distribution is either wire transfer funds to my bank account or someone will arrive at my address to present my winning. I will need to provide two pieces of ID. This is a verifaction process to make sure my true indentity she stated.
