I just got suckered into joining the US America Online Group. I got a phone call out of the blue and with having 2 kids running around I felt as though the salesperson was bombarding me and I gave in, but only after I told him that I could not afford the $99.99 USD setup fee, so he then lower the setup fee to $39.99 USD plus the $19.99 USD for my website hosting fee.
Once off the phone I went searching online for more info to realize that I was just scammed out of $59.99 USD, but luckily I was able to read other peoples complaints about the same company and canceled before the 14 day return policy was up!
Once I called them to cancel the account, I was put on hold to wait for a man (who didn't give his name) who was extremely rude and hung up on me when I said that I felt as though I was bombarded by the salesperson on the phone on the initial call. I told him I wanted to cancel immediately so I wouldn't be obligated to the 1 year contract with them. Once he realized that I was within my 14 day cancellation "right", he became rude and disconnected the call. So I had to then call the 1-800 number again to see if the account was indeed cancelled!
My advice to anyone who may receive a call from these scammers is to hang up the phone and do not give into their requests!!!
