The salesman sealed the deal for a sofa purchase by pointing out that it qualified for a rebate, and even sent us away with all the forms and dual receipts to fill out and send in. The rebate was denied a couple months later on a technicality that was not explicitly mentioned anywhere. Sears customer service offered to provide half of the rebate ($30), but we walked away from that and resolved that no member of our family will ever walk into a Sears store again. Apparently it was about money for them, but principle for us, so in the end our resolution was probably in line with the circumstances. We have cut up our Sears card and will close the account once the last payment of the interest-free financing for this sofa purchase runs its course.
