My Magic Chef Electric Range, model # CER3735ACZ is just over 1 year old and the control panel has stopped working. After doing much research on the Internet and finding out that this is a very common occurrence for this company, I have opted to not bother fixing it since there are so many report that the problem will re-occur in 2 years. This is a very expensive part to replace (about $250-$300 with service call) so if one had to replace it twice in 5 years, that would almost cost as much as the range cost in the first place. I was never very impressed with the range in the first place so I am not upset about that. What's upsetting is that this company is getting away with ripping people off like this. Making such a cheap product and not letting people know that it only lasts for 1 year. I paid $675 plus $60 for S&H for this range and I am totally disgusted with it. I am not well off so I had to seriously think about dropping this now or spending another $600 to extend the life of this piece of crap for another possible 5 years. As far as I'm concerned, anything that craps out after 1 year and then requires almost 1/2 the original cost to repair, with the possibility of extending its life for another 2 years, is not worth the effort. This must be how a compulsive gambler feels. Should I or shouldn't I? I have opted to cut my losses and change brands. I am still debating whether to take this to the Consumer Hotline segment of my local New Channel to expose this line of products.
