Visions
Extended warranty refund

We bought a $4800 TV 5 years ago with an extended warranty of $480. We were fortunate that we never need to use it because it was a Sony TV which only needs to replace one lamp bulb from 8-12 hours of use everyday. We went to search for a TV to put our $480 toward to and decided on a budget of $700-900 dollars. There was a really good deal for a TV that was on for $749 at futureshop and it was $799 at visions so naturally I was going to use their famous price match of 5% difference. I let the sales rep finish his speech and told him about the deal. He said no problem we will match it, but he has to ask his manager first. So basically the total price would be $750 25 for the enviro fee if the 5% difference were to be matched and the GST of 5% would be cancelled by the 5% difference simple math. When he came back he said the price of the TV is $748 now which is on sale and is cheaper than the competitors already in the system so there is no 5% difference. So the store manager is a genius by providing a one dollar discount he saved the store $35. My complaint is they would actually advertise their 5% difference and then when you mention it to them they would change the price right away so you don't get the benefit.

Two weeks later I saw another TV advertised on their website for a good deal, I phoned in and they say they have 13 in stock. I got to the store 20 minutes later and the sales rep said they were sold out. I was frustrated and asked how they were sold out when I phoned 20 minutes ago and they have 13 in stock. He showed me a blank screen with out of stock after you click on the TV's image. He then went on to say that they have the more expensive but lower model in stock.

A few weeks after we just went into the store to pick up any TV because the expiration date is approaching to use the $480 credit. We pick out a Samsung 46" LCD and got the sales rep to lower the price by $18 of big savings. At this point we like the TV's brand and the picture quality not the price or savings. The rep went and process the sales and I took out the credit receipt and my payment card. He call in his manager to look over the credit of $480 towards the purchase of the TV. The manager said the credit can not be used for the savings of the $18 negotiated price. If you to use the credit you have to use it towards the stores actual price. WTF? Basically he is saying we can not sell you for $18 less if you want to use the extended warranty credit, it was apparently in the clause somewhere when we bought the warranty 5 years ago. After feeling defeated and reading about the many complaints with Visions, I came out ahead. This goes to show the dedication a store goes through to keep themselves profitable.

After buying the TV with the $18 victory over the price the sales rep asked if I wanted the extended warranty. I looked at him and he already know the response, I said, "Yes absolutely" sarcastically. At the end of the day I have a new TV to my collection, replacing all the CRT and big clunky ones. It is nice to have money and just laugh at the whole experience at the end of the day.
