King George International College
Poor quality

KGIC is very disorganized. They make excuses for super late replies to parents, who send their kids and juniors all the way to Canada from Japan, China, Taiwan, Spain, Mexico, and mostly Korea to learn English. The local homestays complain too about KGIC's inefficiency (e.g., they get either wrong or last minute information about homestay students and imagine what, payments too! It's usually the case that they pay "less" and very late!) So it's reasonable to have some tight on the budget homestays, who are "forced" to treat students not quite nicely (e.g., very limited meals). I feel so sorry about those kids attending Global Leaders Summer Camp too. "English Only"??? What a big joke! Around 200 kids are speaking mainly Korean, partially Japanese, and little Chinese and Spanish at break at Sands (the location of the camp)! In every class, believe it or not, more than 80% of class time is like that the teacher is taking turns to "tutor" 15 or so kids. Imagine how bored and possibly misbehaved the other kids are when they are left aside! Sure, we can't expect the kids to learn lots of English in three or two weeks or even just 10 days. But at Sands in class, much time is wasted waiting for the teacher to come back to the whole class or small groups or individual kids! Kids are certainly fond of the field trips because they enjoy using their native languages at the same time. Parents, if you think your kid is immersed in an English speaking camp, I have to tell you that you are totally wrong! Regarding junior/adult ESL programs at KGIC, my advice is that check out the surroundings of their buildings. If your kid is shy and can't make friends, you can't count on KGIC to provide after class activities like you might be misguided by what they put at their website. S/he ends up going back to homestay right after school. However, if your kid is outgoing and easily makes friends, you may have to worry that s/he must be very careful not to get some bad habits such as drinking, smoking, or even drugging. I know some students who just can't overcome the negative peer pressure! Avoid KGIC!!!
