I have just received a VERY disturbing call from a collection agency "claiming" to represent Paragon Payday Loan company. The man was a foreigner and his name was Tom Jackson. He was calling from 209-920-4600. He left me a nasty voicemail at my job and even left my social security number on the message threatening me to call him back "or else".
I called him back and he was really rude stating that I owed a payday loan to Paragon and that when they tried to retrieve there money out of my account that it was closed and so I have committed check fraud. He also stated that this is a one time chance to keep me from going to jail or court and pay $6000 as opposed to $950 right now. I do vaguely remember taking out a loan with this company but I made sure that all of my debt was paid. I tried to get more information out of him but he kept yelling at me and telling me that I was going to jail if I did not pay it today.
I was willing to pay to keep from any legal ramifications and so I got my pocket book. He told me that he could not take a check card because their machines are down... RED FLAG. He wanted me to Western Union the money in an hour. I asked him for documentation of the debt before I send him anything and he yelled at me again and told me that he hopes I rot in jail and then hung up.
Now what kind of company will allow this sort of action to take place. So I called the number back three times in a row to talk with someone else and he was the only one answering the phone. I think this is a scam and anyone that receives a call be careful not to fall for it. I still don't know how they got my social but I will wait for the court papers to come in the mail if it is truly my debt and fight it out in court.
