RIP OFF! NOT A DIVISION OF MCI, & NOW VERIZON. SCAM FOR UNCLAIMED PRIZE MONEY

I received a letter from Mci Financial (notice use of lower case vs. MCI). It says I am the lucky winner of unclaimed prize money in the amount of $57, 000.

Just like the other reports that I have seen here I am suppose to contact my agent Monica Thompson "For authorizing and processing or your price, " It is spelled "price" instead of prize in this particular paragragh now that I am just looking at it again.

An enclosed check for $3, 872.99 if for an administrative payment and clearance fees for the winnings.By taking the check to a Bank of America branch I found out that the check was legitimate. The numbers of the check had to manually typed in to there system because it would not check out through their scanner.

I called the number 1-705-770-5904 yesterday. I was told that Monica was on the other line. The "receptionist" said she didn't know how long she would be and to my name and number down.

I didn't get a call back so called this morning. "Monica" was not in yet and I was told to call back about 1pm their time. I did and spoke to "Monica" who didn't sound any different than the "receptionist" who has been answering the phone.

I talked to "Monica" on my fourth call. She gave me instructions on cashing the check, sending $3, 700 by Moneygram or Western Union to a Tax Clearance Officer for the IRS named Frank Johnson @ 450 Park Ave., Buffalo, NY 13024 to handle the IRS end.

I was to retain and call them with the transaction number for the $3, 700 transfer as well as the letter and all of its data. I was to call them back with it to continue the process and get the $57, 000 by UPS or a Prize Rep.

If I thought that this was a scam I was to write void on the check and send it back and I would be disqualified. Very suspicious and lame of course.

Anyways I decided to call MCI to see if they did indeed have a Mci Financial that is A Division of MCI... Ashburn, VA. 20147. I didn't get a direct answer to that as they were concentrating on the check more.

After finally speaking to a supervisor she informed me that there were NO ongoing promotions as such and that MCI Customer Service would notify me directly if I were to win anything.

In my explaining the check logo to her she also said that the check should have an Authentic MCI logo AS WELL as a Verizon one due to their recent merger. The MCI logo on the check is all black instead of with a yellowish or orangish shooting star. It also has a Registered Trademark symbol that I don't see on MCI's website.

If I were to cash this check and keep it and it is a fraud on someone else who can sue me I don't doubt that I wouldn't be held fully liable. It would be my reponsibility as well as anyone else's to make sure things are completely legit before continuing on without the option of displacing blame on anyone else.

Who knows, the person who would be suing would probably be "Monica" or one of her cohorts. They also wanted me to do the wire transfer "personally" instead of "commercially" or "governmentally" so I would keep my costs down. This would first get me to do something not up ot snuff while possibly involving me more into it and secondly may help to keep them or it from being found out and stopped.

One final point. I don't enter sweepstakes, surveys, etc. They said it was from Internet Gaming or Games of which I don't do either. I asked where, who, and when to which a reply was that it would be in one of 4 letters that I would receive. Couldn't tell me then. RIPP OFF!
