I requested that AMP Upholstery work on a small chair for my daughter's room. Anthony at AMP gave me a quote over the phone for a small chair - $150 - $250. When I arrived with the chair, he immediately uped the quote to $300. For this chair, it was a simple fabric, no pattern matching at all, so I don't know why the quote increased. We discussed it, and he agreed to finish the chair for $250. GREAT! He runs a local business and I was keen to support a small business in the community.
The chair was finished and I went to pick it up. Anthony's demeanor upon pick up was rude from the start. Why didn't I call before I came??? I was told to drive around back of the warehouse to pick up the chair and inspect it. I did so, and when I did inspect it, the chair seat fabric had been upholstered crooked. I pointed that out, and Anthony became very angry and defensive. He was very clear that he was not going to fix it, and that he had put enough time into the chair for the price we agreed to. I disputed that regardless of the price agreed upon, the quality should be acceptable. The seat was clearly crooked. When I asked him if he could see if it was crooked, he said "the lines are horizontal, that's all I am going to say. Let's put your chair over there and you can think about it". The bottom line was that he would not give me my chair unless I paid him in full and he refused to repair the crooked fabric. He left me with no choice but to pay him in full, as the chair belongs to me and I had invested in the fabric.
I strongly believe that this company and owner did not care about quality, and did not deliver an acceptable finished product. The owner knew this and refused to negotiate or work with me to resolve the issue. In fact, he became very defensive and angry. The setting is an industrial warehouse and no one else was around. I felt like he was a bully and I was very intimidated. When I put the chair in the car and drove away, I was shaking because of the way he treated me and because I found his attitude and threatening tone very scary.
Long story short, do not use this company because - they do not stand behind their work, any quality issues will not be addressed, and if you do not pay you will not get your furniture or fabric returned.
