If you are reading this you probably have been ripped off by Steve Brown if you haven't stay clear of this unscrupulos contractor!!
My wife and I contracted this scam artist on Jan15, 08 to install hardwood floors in our home the work was to be completed by March 18, 08. We gave him a $3500 deposit for the purchase of the wood.
The guy didn't even call to say he wasn't going to show I wasted a weeks vacation! When I called him and asked him what the problem was he claimed he had too much work. So we made arrangements for another installation date. Again no call and again he was a no show! His excuses were always his crew had quit on him or he was sick this guy seems to have used every excuse in the book with us. I have been trying to get my floor done for 6 months.
I got fed up with him the calls became heated and abusive so I had him checked out. I went to file a claim in small claims court and met up with a paralegal who knows of this contractors reputation he told me that this guy lives in court and that he knows of 23 claims against him and very few got their money back. He told me that he puts everything in his wifes name and hides his assets extremly well. He also likes to go bankrupt and change his name and phone numbers often. The paralegal told me that I would be throwing good money after bad so I talked to my lawer and he concured with the paralegal and advised me that going to the poice and submitting a report for fraud against this contractor.
So I put a report in with the Durham Region Police. The constable that took my report told me that he has heard of this guy from other people in the area! They are currently looking into this matter for me.
This contractor knows the system he needs to be punished small claims will not do anything to him he needs to have criminal charges brought against him so If you have been ripped off by him you should go to your local police and put in a report. Don't let thid guy screew you. I will keep you posted as this progresses.
