Juan Martin was hired to renovate my house in February 2007. The basement apartment was the priority and he basically he just walked off the job without finishing. I couldn't move in until October 2007, (9 months later!) I had to hire other contractors to fix his poor workmanship and finish the work. He didn't leave me a forwarding address, nor did he have insurance. My attempts to contact him have proved fruitless. I am out of pocket about $20, 000.00.
I had no relationship with this person other than the business contracts he was awarded. Once I found out he took off, I contacted his wife who informed me of the other people he ripped off. She only did this when she learned he was having an affair.
I have since learned from his wife that he has disappeared with other people's money in the Hamilton and Toronto area. She has also been robbed of her life savings of about $90, 000.00. His has a 4 yr old son with her and he has just up and disappeared.
THIS GUY IS A CREEP! DO NOT TRUST HIM! He is a little sweet talking cuban, with lots of charm. He is a talented worker himself, but a liar and a thief. He will gain your confidance by doing a good job for the first job, but be careful when he asks for the downpayment for the second contract. He lulls you into a false sense of security and will say anything to cover his ass to explain why the work is not getting done.
He did not pay his employees who worked at my house or the other construction sites.
I also have reason to believe he took money from a girlfreind (on the side) for the sum of 9000.00. In summation I would warn anyone who has dealings with this man Juan Martin, formerly of Toronto and Hamilton to stay clear and don't trust him at all. He is a liar, thief, dead beat dad, and a cheater.
The cops won't press charges since it's a civil matter. I think it's fraud.
