Terrible Cleaning Service

Below is a copy of a letter, which I wrote to SOS Specialized Cleaning today. I have been trying without success to obtain their address to send this letter. I had seen their add in the Ottawa Yellow pages and then contracted their services. WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WAS!!! When I called the owner back, I think his name was Andre I explained how unhappy we were with the cleaning his company provided. He said there was nothing he would do for me other then "Cash our Cheque".

Andre:

Further to our telecom on March 27, 2003 I am canceling our cleaning services with your company effective immediately. I am totally dissatisfied with the unsatisfactory and incomplete cleaning your company provided on March 27, 2003. I will not be paying for this cleaning as you have no intention on resolving this matter. Your only comment in response to my concern was I am just going to cash your cheque.

I am also informing you that your cleaners caused considerable damage to the hardwood floors in our family room by dragging the coffee table, sofa and end table across the floor. This caused deep scratches on the surface of the floor, which will have to be repaired. I am holding your company 100% responsible for the cost to repair and refinish this damaged area. The estimated cost of repair this is $1, 098.89.

You only provided a partial cleaning of our home on March 21st and did not clean the basement level as promised. I paid your cleaners an extra $50.000 (as a bonus) then agreed on because she kept complaining that she was loosing so much money on this job and was upset that Andre had agreed upon this amount. The cleaning that you did provide on March 21st was marginally acceptable at best. I was promised they would make it up on the next cleaning scheduled for the following Thursday, March 27, 2003. My wife and I decided to allow your company a second chance to fairly access your service.

As I mentioned to you in detail yesterday here is a partial list of our concerns with the cleaning;

1) Basement bathroom was not cleaned at all. Sink was gritty and dirty. Toilette seat was not cleaned and the tub was not touched. The vinyl floor was not washed properly and the garbage was not emptied.
2) Carpets on staircase and in basement level was not vacuumed properly.

3) Hardwood floors through out the entire house was not cleaned properly and still had crumbs and dirt on it.

4) The glass on all the French doors on ground level was not cleaned.

5) The back splash in the kitchen looked like it was cleaned with a mop! Large gritty and white streaks from one end to another.

6) Granite Counter Island had swirl marks and sticky jam still on it.

7) Crumbs around toaster.

8) Crumbs, dust and papers still under Sofas through out entire house.

9) Small red carpets in kitchen were not vacuumed and were full of crumbs underneath.

10) Bedroom carpets were not cleaned properly. Vacuumed around objects instead of moving them.

11) Only partial dusting through out entire home.

12) Main bathroom shower tiles streaked and white and gritty.

13) Ensuite bedroom tiles around fireplace not cleaned or dusted.

14) Baseboards in basement not cleaned. Still could pick up dust on them.

15) Light fixture in basement and main level bathroom not cleaned.

16) Switch plates on all walls not cleaned.

17) Cupboards in kitchen were not at all spot cleaned as promised.

The unsatisfactory and incomplete cleaning your company provided is unacceptable. I am asking that you immediately return the cheque in the amount of $107.00 issued on March 27, 2003. I am also requesting that you return both cheques, ($128.40 and $50.00) which was given to your cleaners on March 21, 2003. The amount of $128.40 (only) will be applied towards the cost of repair to the damaged hardwood floor caused by your cleaning staff.

The $50.00 cheque given to your company, as a bonus will be cancelled.
There will be no payment made for the unsatisfactory and incomplete cleaning on March 27, 2003.

Below is statement of account:

Cost to repair/refinish hardwood floor in family room damaged by your cleaning staff;

Damage $1098.89 (estimated)
Less - $128.40 for initial (incomplete) cleaning on march 21, 2003

Balance owing $970.49

If full payment of $928.89 is not received within 10 days of this letter I will commence with immediate legal proceedings with no further notice to collect this amount. Please govern your self accordingly.
