Desjardins
Auto Insurance

Do not buy insurance from this company, they will not pay what you claim.

I have been with this company since 1999 claims free. I made a claim this July 2010 first one ever, it was for vandalism of my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4.

The entire driver side was scratched from front to back and very deep, the grill was smashed, the gauges broken, the signal arm broken right off, the leather driver’s seat stabbed, the tail gate was scratched, there was a substantial amount of damage.

I contacted the claims and they sent out an appraiser to make an estimate. They did not contact me when they came they just showed up and looked at the truck. When I contacted the adjuster to find out when they would be coming she informed me that they had already come.

I immediately voiced my objection to them coming without alerting me and allowing me to witness what they were doing. When the estimate came back he stated that the grill was not caused by vandalism that it was caused by a collision, he did not include the driver’s seat and stated that the scratches could be buffed out, and also stated that the seats were cloth not leather. This appraiser came back with $1972.20 to cover the cost of repairs.

I complained and asked that they assign another appraiser, they did and the second appraiser again paid by them was not much better, he came back with $3217.22, this appraiser deducted 50% betterment for the repair of the door due to rust around the door handles, there is not rust at all.

I called a body shop to come and see the truck and that appraisal came out to $4787.75, I sent my appraisal to the insurer and they refused to accept it.

I then contacted Desjardins approved body shop and their body shop told me that Desjardins told them not to deal with me and if they did they were on their own and they would not be paid any more than their appraiser quoted.
