This is the first time I've felt so inclined to put a rip off report out on a company. Unfortunately, I was contacted by a smooth talking Larry from Great Cars and Trucks.com. He says he had preapproved buyers ready to buy my truck, which he then gushed over how great it looked from the Autotrader.com pics/ad. According to Larry, these pre-approved buyers would be contacting me in a matter of hours and we should have the car sold by the weekend and the additional fee of $185.00 would be tacked on to the sales price of my truck to cover. To good to be true I thought.
I told him that I wouldn't be giving him my credit card over the phone. Understanding my hesitation and being a great scam artist, he directed me to his website and gave his office phone number to call and told me about how they're so big and reputable they need 4 receptionists upfront to deal with all their volume of calls. I now know it's because of people like me bugging the front desk to get these sales slime balls to call back. I called the number he gave 1-888-224-5681 and of course Larry called me back in 5 minutes. Then over the phone, we went on the GC&T website together and looked at all the similar vehicles for sale. I later found out, the person who answers the phone at Great Cars and Trucks.com, will never transfer you over directly. Larry was always on the phone and would have to call me back.
Against my better judgement after being told I would only have an AUTHORIZATION put against my card, NOT AN ACTUAL CHARGE, I finally gave up the credit card number. I also double checked with him that I would not be billed if I found a buyer on my own, which Larry of course said no charges would be put against the card, only an authorization for funds needed. Then, Larry "the liar" promised me I'd recieve confirmation on the credit card authorization along with terms of doing business with GC&T faxed to me in 5 minutes. I wanted some sort of documentation about this transaction. Of course this didn't happen at all.
I gave him until the next day and left 2 messages without a call back. Now, 2 days later, I called again 2 more times and no call back. Finally realizing what is happening, I went online to my bank today (8/3/2007) and of course there was the authorization from Mr. Larry the Liar and then a full charge of $164.02 to GC&T (not even the correct amount). Furious, I googled these guys (which like a moron I should of done in the first place) and saw these rip off reports and many other scammer warning sites, including the BBB to not work with these guys.
Since this just took place 4 days ago (7/31/07) I should be OK... I've called my bank and they have reversed the charges and cancelled the card.
Now get this, I called one more time and told the person who answered,
"I'm sure Larry won't return this call like he doesn't return any of my other calls, but he put a charge on my card against my wishes and he must call me back". Finally I hear from Larry the Liar at Great Cars and Trucks.com (amazingly, just a few minutes later). He told me that he never said anything about an AUTHORIZATION and if I wanted a refund I needed to go to blah blah blah to fill out a refund form. I came unglued (since I already knew he was a liar and a theif) and told him he was a cheat and how can he sleep at night lying all day long to people. He then went ahead and asked me, "How smart are you to give your credit card up to someone over the phone who I didn't know." He actually mocked me for being so dumb to fall for his theivery. Which is why I will now spend all the time I have telling people what a wretched company this is and not to deal with anyone from Great Cars and Trucks.com. LIARS & THEIVES!!! Escpecially LARRY!
(Strangely I've been contacted by two other reps since then from GC&T trying to sign me up... What a joke!)
