Bel-Air Direct Insurance
Misleading, bordering on fraudulent! Rip-off!

After 3.8 years of having a full 'G' licence in Ontario, I decided to buy a car. After shopping around for car insurance, I found Belair's quotes to be reasonable, which prompted me to actually complete the purchase of a 1998 Honda Accord.

When I tried to purchase the policy, however, they changed their tune. It seems that they had not realised that I had not had owned a car, and therefore had no auto insurance history. This, despite disclosing the fact while obtaining the online quote!!

"Have you been previously insured for the past 12 months or more? NO. "IF YES, how long have you been with the same insurer? " (Do I really need to answer this question??? I SAID NO, DIDN'T I?)

They have an option to buy the policy online, but I am told that the company sends out an application, reviews it, and then sends out a final quote. If that is the process, THEN HOW CAN YOU PURCHASE IT ONLINE? In other words, you're saying, give me your credit card detail, or your bank details, and then we'll decide about your application. THAT'S ABSURD!

More importantly, if I have answered all the questions for the quote honestly, as set out by the company, then I should be able to assume reasonably that the quote provided is what I need to pay.

Before of this tinpot little insurance company, operating from some boiler room. If they don't have their front-end business procedures in place, can you imagine what will happen should you ever need to make a claim? SHUDDER!
